ROLE-01
Plasma diagnostics engineer
OPEN
Full-time·San Francisco, CA — on-site
Work on the diagnostic suite for our pulsed D–D testbed — optical, magnetic, neutron, and electrical measurements. Help turn shot data into the next experiment.
What you'd do
Work with the diagnostics team on optical, magnetic, and neutron measurements
Integrate diagnostics with the data-acquisition stack alongside the software team
Analyze shot data and brief the team on findings
Iterate on the experimental campaign with the physics group
We're looking for
PhD or equivalent industry experience in plasma physics, fusion, or pulsed-power experiments
Hands-on with high-bandwidth diagnostics, vacuum systems, and HV hardware
Comfortable owning measurements end-to-end in a small team
ROLE-02
Pulsed-power engineer
OPEN
Full-time·San Francisco, CA — on-site
Contribute to the energy-storage and switching stack that drives the reactor — Marx generators, pulse-forming networks, fast switches, trigger electronics.
What you'd do
Work with the pulsed-power team on Marx banks, PFNs, and HV trigger electronics
Spec and qualify HV components, switches, and capacitors with the procurement group
Contribute to EMI/EMC and grounding architecture for the testbed
Take work from schematic to commissioned hardware alongside the build team
We're looking for
5+ years designing pulsed-power or HV systems in industry, defense, or a national lab
Fluent in SPICE; comfortable with FPGA / embedded firmware as needed
Have shipped pulsed-power hardware that survived its first shot
ROLE-03
RF engineer
OPEN
Full-time·San Francisco, CA — on-site
Work on the RF systems that heat and shape the plasma — resonators, matching networks, high-power amplifiers, and the instrumentation around them.
What you'd do
Work with the RF team on resonators and matching networks for the reactor geometry
Spec and integrate high-power RF amplifiers and transmission lines
Build RF diagnostics and characterize plasma loading with the physics group
Contribute to RF safety and shielding for the lab
We're looking for
Strong RF / microwave background — academic or industrial
Hands-on with high-power RF, network analyzers, and EM simulation
Comfortable around high-voltage and vacuum systems
ROLE-04
Mechanical engineer
OPEN
Full-time·San Francisco, CA — on-site
Work on the reactor vessel, vacuum systems, and support structures. Help shape manufacturing strategy as we move from one unit toward many.
What you'd do
Work with the mechanical team on the reactor vessel and ancillary hardware
UHV system development, machining, and metal joining alongside the fab group
Coordinate with machine shops, weld houses, and component suppliers
Contribute to assembly, alignment, and leak-checking on-site
We're looking for
Track record shipping complex precision hardware
Deep experience with UHV, precision machining, and metal joining
Comfortable owning a part from CAD through commissioning
ROLE-05
Controls engineer
OPEN
Full-time·San Francisco, CA — on-site
Contribute to the real-time control system, interlocks, and instrumentation that make the reactor safe to operate and easy to iterate on.
What you'd do
Work with the controls team on the real-time control loop and safety interlocks
Integrate sensors and actuators across the testbed alongside the diagnostics group
Contribute to the operator interface and shot-sequencing tooling
Support commissioning and reliability of the control stack
We're looking for
Strong controls / embedded background — industrial, aerospace, or research
Fluent in real-time systems, FPGA or PLC, and instrumentation
Have shipped a control system you trusted to run unattended
ROLE-06
Software engineer (staff)
OPEN
Full-time·San Francisco, CA — on-site
Work on the software that runs the reactor — control loops, data pipelines, simulation, internal tools. Senior scope across the stack.
What you'd do
Work with the software team on real-time control software for the pulsed-power and diagnostics stack
Contribute to data acquisition, storage, and analysis pipelines for shot data
Build simulation and modeling tools alongside the physics team
Internal tooling — anything that makes the team faster
We're looking for
10+ years building production systems; comfortable owning the whole stack
Strong systems engineer — performance, reliability, and good taste in abstractions
We work with skilled techs and contractors on assembly, fabrication, electrical, and machining — both short-term project work and longer engagements.
What you'd do
Hardware build, assembly, and rework alongside the build team
Electrical install, wiring, and instrumentation
Machining, welding, fab as needed
Lab and facility setup
We're looking for
Strong hands-on skills in your trade
References from prior shop, lab, or fab work
Comfortable around HV and vacuum hardware (or willing to learn under a senior)
ROLE-08
Interns
OPEN
Intern·San Francisco, CA — on-site preferred; remote considered for the right candidate
Open to undergraduates, master's students, and PhD candidates working on something that overlaps with our roadmap. Plasma physics, pulsed power, RF, controls, mech, software — if you're excited and capable, get in touch.
What you'd do
Work on a scoped project alongside a founder or senior engineer
Ship something real — not a polished slide deck
Present results to the team at the end of the engagement
We're looking for
Strong academic record in a relevant field
Prior project, research, or build work you can talk through in detail
Available for at least 10 weeks
